Dry Weather and Corn in Illinois

I traveled from Champaign to Springfield yesterday (September 11) and saw a few corn fields around Decatur that were just harvested. Emerson Nafziger, University of Illinois agronomist, has a great article on the effect of the late season dry weather on the corn crop. He addresses a number of concerns and backs it up with field data, including:

  • rapid maturity due to high temperatures
  • kernel weight
  • stalk health
  • drydown
  • aflatoxin

Check it out.
