Here in Champaign-Urbana we received 0.5 inches of snow overnight. That’s the first measurable snow of the season. On the left is what it looked like outside my office this morning; snow on the leaves under bright sunshine – just beautiful. Several other sites in northern and central Illinois received snowfall amounts between 0.1 and 1.6 inches.
Below are the 1981-2010 averages (aka normals) for November snowfall across Illinois. One to two inches are common north of Interstate 80 but for most of the state, the average is less than an inch. And far southern Illinois averages no snowfall at all in November.
